WHC has created a special exhibition of historical farming scenes, which will be staged in the Seminar Room at the Yorkshire Exhibition Centre. The WHC archive group headed by Deborah Power has created interpretation telling the story of farming in the Washburn Valley, featuring agricultural machinery, boundaries and the role of women in agriculture.
Deborah says: “The team spent many hours researching as much information as possible and the idea to feature women’s emancipation in the exhibition came from a photograph of the Women’s Electrical Association exhibiting at the show.”
The exhibition includes an old Ordnance Survey map showing the layout of the land on which the show was subsequently developed.
Show Director Charles Mills says: “We are extremely grateful to both the Yorkshire Film Archive and Washburn Heritage Centre for their sterling efforts in putting these excellent projects together. It would be marvellous if visitors to the show recognise relatives, events or places that mean a lot to them.”
