At the Heritage Centre we offer a cake reimbursement scheme. Our bakers can choose where they would like their reimbursements to go; some choose for it to go to our Charity of the Year. In 2026 the bakers chose Resurrected Bites; it really is “cake with a conscience”!
At a recent talk, our speaker was Martin Lister from FM Lister Auctioneers in Otley and he entertained the audience with a live auction. Emma Smith, one of our members, successfully bid for an afternoon tea and they booked to attend with two friends. Resurrected Bites is a charity and Community Interest Company (CIC) that gives surplus food a new lease of life at our community cafes and groceries in Harrogate and Knaresborough.
A shocking 30% of the UK’s food goes to waste which has a huge impact on the environment and wider society. We work closely with supermarkets and local businesses and together, we stop tonnes of good quality food from going into landfill.
Our cafes are for everyone who enjoys good company, good conversation and good food. You can enjoy a delicious meal in a warm, welcoming space where there’s a real sense of community and friendship.
Our groceries are for people who are struggling to make ends meet and need a bit of extra support. Shopping with us means you can buy good quality, nutritious food at a fraction of the price you’d pay in your local supermarket or local shop.
We also help with things like budgeting, work clubs and cookery courses, giving people the confidence and skills they need.
Everything we do is driven by our commitment to take better care of our environment and create a supportive, caring and inclusive community where everyone feels respected, welcomed and valued.
Our mission is to reduce food waste, loneliness and food poverty in our local community. Or as we like to call it, ‘filling bellies not bins.’
