This week a small group of members were able to visit the Sisk site office at Kex Gill and find out more the A59 realignment project. A drone’s view over the whole site from a recent sunny day was spectacular but a drive along part of the new road was a rare privilege. Thank you to Phil, one of our volunteers who set this visit up, and also thank you to the site engineers who looked after our group so well.
One of our group participants said:
“What a real one off and special opportunity that visit proved. Sisk, the construction company, with the NYCC contract to build the new road, were well organised, gave us a very friendly welcome and an excellent project overview for the first 50 mins or so; then by 4×4 down to where the new road leaves the old A59 at Blubberhouses and where we could see work in progress on the new road, an important underpass beneath the new road, the new bridlepath and extensive new drainage channels.
They went out of their way to explain just why the cost of these two and a bit miles of new road are going to cost some £40 million per mile to complete!”
