A delighted audience for George Webster

The Washburn Heritage Centre was buzzing last Saturday when Members and friends welcomed George Webster to speak about his life story and incredible rise to fame. Actor, writer, presenter, CBeebies star and Strictly contestant, George, who has Down’s Syndrome, recounted some of his experiences and adventures along his journey.  He even read his autobiography ‘This is Me!’ to the delighted listeners.  The packed audience had their eyes opened by the positive and enchanting messages. The highlight of the afternoon was when George donned his ‘Strictly’ jacket and posed for photos with his BAFTA award. However, he did decline to show us the Charleston he had performed on the show!

The new programme ‘More than a Woman’ commences next week at the Centre, offering a packed programme of talks, walk, suppers, workshops and more, based on some of the incredible women associated with the Washburn Valley. The preview for members takes place on Tuesday 3rd October at 6.00 pm at the Centre.

Advance notice: our festive Christmas Kitchen will be on December 2nd and 3rd at the Centre once again. Make a note in your diaries for those extra special homemade treats!
