
Showcasing the wonder of the flora and fauna of the Washburn Valley
Our summer 2019 programme of events is entitled Near and Far. It accompanies the Paul Harris Exhibition in the Centre: “The Water’s Edge – photographs from Nidderdale and beyond”
The theme for the exhibition and programme of events at WHC from October 2018 to end January 2019 is: ‘War and the Washburn Valley’
From June to September 2018 the exhibition reviewed how people planned and celebrated their special day in the Valley and further afield.
From February to May 2018 the exhibition focused on the dwellings in the valley, grand and not-so-grand, past and present.
From September 2017 to January 2018 the exhibition was subtitled ‘from hipping stones to bridges’ and focused on the different ways that people have crossed the Washburn over the centuries.
From May 2017 to August 2017 the exhibition showed the different ways that people, both locals and visitors, can see and experience the valley, whether though feats of engineering, through the written word, through leisure activities or through local eyes.
The theme from January to April 2017 is the Fewston Assemblage – which refers to the remains and artefacts which were found when the site for the Heritage Centre was excavated in 2009-10.
The theme for October – December 2016 is a partnership with the King Street Workshops from the Old Workhouse at Pateley Bridge. It brings together a group of renowned artists, makers and designers to share their knowledge, skill and expertise.

The exhibition, running from March – May 2016, featured panels celebrating Spring in the Washburn Valley, its birds, flowers, weather, festivals and farming practices.
The exhibition, running from December 2015 – February 2016, featured panels showing extreme conditions in the the very rural setting of the Washburn Valley and some reminiscences of the hardships caused.
All that the Washburn Valley offers or offered in the Autumn – the natural bounty of berries and fungi, farming activities, sport, Autumn weather and more.
